This is pretty rad, way to go.

      Thanks Rudolf and Jake

Although the system tends to do the pretty basic things, there are couple of features in the pipeline to be implemented which can make the system to use WP’s complete Theme ‘ing’ capabilities.

Hello Everyone, WordPress is great and …

    Hello Everyone,

WordPress is great and I have never enjoyed coding like this before 🙂
Buildpress development is going very good.
The latest version has lot of changes and new enhancements

    1. Completely revamped “more organized” UI
    2. Every Theme has 4 areas where a User can modify in viz “Layout”, “Design”, “Color”, “Typography”
    3. Buildpress now uses a “6-Color Scheme idea” to power its theme colors etc. There are already predefined color-schemes to choose from including ones User’s can create (still working on, the creation of new schemes).
    4. Contains “Custom Header module (AJAXED upload+Cropper)” but currently disabled as I haven`t been able to decide how to use this feature
    5. Themes look good, usable and completely Customizable 🙂

Todo : Edit (which will be over in a day or 2)

Code Optimization is being done as coding is being done.

    Cheers guys 🙂

Any patch so that we can see?

    • Jane Wells 12:12 pm on August 4, 2009 Permalink

Hi Michael. Can you please post the updated patch so people can test it out? Thanks. Also, looking back at your original application, you were planning a drag and drop interface. The last build I saw (at midterm) only used form elements for selecting sidebars, etc. Does your current version have drag and drop functionality for restructuring things after the elements have been selected?

      • Micheal B. 7:22 am on August 7, 2009 Permalink

        Hello Jane,
We (me and my mentor) decided to scrap the drag-drop interface since we thought it wouldn`t be feasible and instead developed a better yet simple version which includes a variety of selectors to create a theme. We decided to change the scope of the project as required so we can offer much more flexibility in creating a theme.

I have just deployed a demo site with the latest version, just trying to make some security changes so people can view the system without abusing it, if this won`t work, I`ll post the source code here.

I`ll be continuing to develop this project even after GSoC, so I`ll try to enhance this application as per the community requires.

        Sorry for the delay Jane.

Firstly thanks to my mentor, the administrator of WordPress.
    Secondly, about Buildpress,

I have just embedded the Custom Header Option in Builder UI. It isn`t any Custom Header script, but a custom one, integrated to the Builder itself, showing a live preview of your crop 🙂

Lil tweaks left, also we will be cleaning up code to WP standards.

Lets hope we can release an alpha version of the complete system in the coming week 🙂

    Cheers Guys

Ok, Here is the update. I`ll be soon p…

    Here is the update.

I`ll be soon posting a link to the very early dev version of Buildpress (need to confirm with Mr.Andrew).
    The latest updates include

working Create New Theme (with the Buildpress Builder UI)

    • features 8 differnt types of layouts (2 cols, 3cols with 2 fully widgetized sidebars + Top and Bottom Banners)
    • 3 types of page size (viz fixed 750px, 950px and liquid – 100%)
    • Customizable Fonts, colors and sizes (for the demo only h1,h2,h3,p are featured). More customizations will be included.

    Completely AJAX powered,

    • working Delete Theme action
    • working Activate Theme action

The “Buildpress Builder” which is the UI that will help create layouts, has 2 panels viz Panel-1 = layout of the theme, Panel-2 = Cosmetics of the theme. (currently the panels are populated with just test variables, you can play with em :))

Buildpress uses the WP options table instead of an own table to store individual theme settings. This will help it perform much faster since the options are autoloaded at start of WP.

I am currently working on a bit of the cosmetics for rendering themes. Will post a link soon 🙂

    Hello Everyone,

I have been working on “Buildpress” (the name we thought for our addon) from the past week. We have made a lot of progress. Bits and pieces of code which was scattered are all going through integration.

Probably, I will be releasing a working prototype of the app once Mr.Andrew gives a nod.

Actually the update list is quite a lot. I think, its better if you guys see it before I post some documentation here 🙂

    Hello everyone,

This week hasn`t been very productive in getting the UI ready. But we have made significant progress in finding a solution with other aspects of the system as to how to export to WP theme.

Currently I am trying to write a parser that can convert the UI output to WP theme output.

I am kind of lil behind schedule, hope to make up quite a lot in this week.

    Ok, here is my update,

Last week has been a lil slow but productive.

    1. Added ability to have 4 different sidebars to the layout (top, bottom, left, right)

    2. Ability to have different amount of columns in the content area.

    3. Added ability to change font size, font color and font of headers, paragraphs for the theme. A color picker has been integrated for simple choice of colors for different headers and paragraphs.

    4. Still working on how the data needs to be ported to build a theme structure. I and my mentor decided we`ll use the database to store the options and pull out respectively (although still pondering on more options)

    Need to do this week
    1. Create a skeleton Theme for WP on which Buildpress will work.

    2. Need more cosmetic changes. As of now only fonts, font colors and font size has been integrated. Need to integrate background color and other css stuff

Thats all for now 🙂 later
